KEEPING
YOUR POND CRYSTAL CLEAR AND HEALTHY
1)
Feed your fish sparingly, up to two times per day. Ask
your local pet dealer about proper feeding instructions
for your particular water garden system. Test your ammonia
level before adding new fish in order to prevent stress
and fish loss. The number one cause of fish death is
ammonia! If your test yields
results of greater than 0.5 ppm, use Fritz
Zeolite, to immediately reduce the toxic nature
of your pond water. Continue to test your ammonia and
add additional zeolite if necessary.
2) Never use any water chemistry product unless
it is phosphate free. Phosphates
are a food source for many ugly, unwanted growths. Adding
products that contain phosphates will only increase
your maintenance and cause unattractive blooms. All
Fritz Pond water chemistry products are 100% phosphate
free.
3) Add one Fritz
Fertilizer Tablet to each of your pond plants once
every three to four weeks. This greatly increases the
lifespan of your plants, encourage growth, and promote
more blooms per plant per season. Fertilizer tablets
are the only product you should add to your pond that
contain any phosphates. Phosphates are a necessary trace
element that your plants must have to survive. Never
use a liquid fertilizer; these can cause major algae
blooms and may ruin water quality.
4) Filter out as much sunlight as you can with
"shading" products, like the Fritz
Miracle-Zyme or Fritz
Blue Water Tablets. Unfiltered sunlight causes blooms
and cloudiness. These preventative tools greatly reduce
hassle and work.
5) Use a good biological filter with ample mechanical
filtration to remove other algae "bloom sources"
such as leaves, debris, excess food, and waste.
6) Unsightly cloudiness may develop in the summertime
months, despite a good maintenance plan. If your pond
starts to become cloudy, IMMEDIATELY use a quality clarifier
to quickly and permanently eliminate all the suspended
particles. Make sure to use a phosphate-free clarifier,
so that you are not encouraging future algae blooms.
Fritz
Super Clarifier is phosphate-free and is not an
algaecide; therefore it will not harm fish, plants or
other wildlife. After using your clarifier, immediately
follow-up with a good sludge reducer to improve water
quality. Another recommended, beneficial tool is a "shading
product," like the Fritz
Blue Water Tablets. Fritz
Miracle-Zyme is actually 4 products for the price
of 1 and will help out tremendously; simply use the
Fritz
Clarifier and follow up with the Miracle-Zyme
to shade the water and "eat" organics and
bloom sources off of the bottom of the pond
and out of the filter.
7) Perform a 20% water change at least once every
two months in order to prevent the build-up of nitrogen
in the form of nitrates. Nitrogen deteriorates water
quality and can cause unsightly blooms. Make sure to
treat the water you are adding back into your pond for
both chlorine and chloramine. Don't forget to adjust
your pH with the necessary phosphate-free pH adjuster.
If you are not sure on your pH level, ask your local
pet dealer about testing your pH with a Fritz
Freshwater PH Test Kit.
8) Enjoy your pond. The use of a few inexpensive,
high quality products keeps your maintenance to a minimum
and your pond's beauty to the max!
