(Cephalopholis miniata (Forsskal, 1775)
AKA: Coral Grouper, Coral Hind
|
The
Miniatus Grouper is a very strikingly beautiful red
color with white and blue dots. They range from
the Red Sea to the mid-Pacific living in coral reefs
looking for smaller fish upon which to dine. They
reach 16 +inches in the wild and are therefore only
suitable for large aquariums, (at least 100 gallons)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Maximum Length: 16.1 in (41 cm)
Range: Indo-west-Pacific
Minimum Aquarium Size: 100 gal. (379 L)
Foods and Feeding: Meaty foods, such as marine
fish andn crustacena flesh. Feed 2-4 times per week.
Aquarium Suitability: Very hardy with almost
all individuals readily acclimating to aqaurium confines.
Captive Care: A gaudy species that will thrive
in the marine aquarium. Can be quite shy when initially
introduced; over time it will spend more time in the
open. Like all other members of its genus, it greedily
accepts chopped fresh ofr frozen seafoods, other frozen
preperations, and freeze-dried krill. Keep one per aquarium,
as they are prone to fight with one another. May be
kept in a shallow-or deep-water reef aquarium, but will
eat crustaceans and smaller fishes. It will eat any
fish it can swallow whole (including cleaner wrasses)
and will behave agressively towards tankmates that intrude
on its preferred hiding places. Can outgrow smaller
tnks and place a strain on aquarium filtration and water
quality.
