| Pseudanthias pleurotaenia (Bleeker,
1857) |
Maximum Length: 7.9
in (20 cm)
Range: Western and South Pacific
Minimum Aquarium Size: 70 gal. (265 L)
Foods and Feeding: Meaty foods for zooplankton
feeders, including mysid shrimp, vitamin-enriched brine
shrimp, and frozen preparations. Feed at least 4 times
a day.
Aquarium Suitability: Generally durable and hardy,
with most individuals acclimating to the home aquarium.
Captive Care: Nearly fluorescent in color intensity,
this flashy species can do well in a larger aquarium
with several hiding places into which it can dive when
threatened. Acclimation is sometimes slow; anew specimen
may hide for a week or more. in time it will become
less shy and accept live and prepared foods. Juveniles
and smaller females (under 3.9 in) adjust more readily.
Keep singly, unless the tank is large (135 gal.or more).
Even then, keep only one male and six or more females
to avoid terminal battles. May scuffle with other zooplankton
feeders.
