Fritz
Pet would like to congratulate two Fritz customers;
Living Sea Aquarium of Park Ridge,
Ill.; and Preuss Animal House of Lansing,
Mich., for being the first of four stores to receive
certification from the Marine Aquarium Council, formalizing
their compliance with MAC standards for international
trade in marine aquarium organisms. A&M
Aquatics of Lansing, Mich. (a Fritz Distributor)
received certification as an importer.
The
Marine Aquarium Council (MAC) is an international, not-for-profit
organization that brings marine aquarium animal collectors,
exporters, importers and retailers together with aquarium
keepers, public aquariums, conservation organizations
and government agencies.
MAC's
mission is to conserve coral reefs and other marine
ecosystems by creating standards and certification for
those engaged in the collection and care of ornamental
marine life from reef to aquarium.
MAC's
Goals include:
- Establish
independent standards and certification of “best
practices.”
- Raise
public awareness of the industry role in conservation.
- Provide
objective, accurate data on the marine ornamental
trade.
- Ensure
the health and quality of marine life through responsible
collection, handling and transporting practices.
- Encourage
responsible husbandry through education and training.
