This carbon provides much less total surface area, so it removes less discoloration (caused by phenols). Some brands put cheap, gray clinoptilolite-based rock that is not in the carbon family at all in with their carbon. It is quickly clogged by toxins and trace elements. This loses up to 50% of its effectiveness in saltwater. It can take up to 400% more of this mixture to have the same effective adsorption of pure bituminous carbon.
